If you want to use 230V AC voltage during your holiday or trip with your motorhome, caravan or boat, just like at home from the socket, you need an inverter. To have a safe and reliable power supply with 230V alternating current when travelling, use the inverter to generate 230V alternating voltage from 12V direct voltage. The pure sine wave generated by the EasyPlus allows you to connect sensitive electrical appliances, such as a microwave, a small coffee pod machine or a modern television. It can also be used for LED lighting. It is often not enough to simply generate conventional alternating current. The question arises, for example, how do I charge my battery, how do I switch my power supply from shore power to a stand-alone power supply, and so on. The Victron EasyPlus solves many of these questions.
The Victron EasyPlus is an intelligent combination device consisting of a sine wave inverter with 1600VA output, 70A battery charger (also for lithium) and ultra-fast mains priority switching. Basically comparable to the Victron MultiPlus series but with the decisive advantage that it already has integrated residual current circuit breakers
Special features in brief:
- 12 Volt 1600VA inverter with sine wave, suitable for sensitive electrical appliances but also for inductive loads thanks to the 3000 Watt peak output
- 70A battery charger with 4-stage, adaptive charging technology for fast and accurate charging of the battery, adjustable for all common supply batteries including lithium batteries
- Second 4A charging output for trickle charging the starter battery
- Unique PowerAssist® technology protects the shore or generator power source from overload by adding additional inverter power when required.
- Residual current circuit breaker (30 mA/16 A) integrated at the AC output
- Four AC outputs protected by two 10A and two 16A fuses
- The two 10A and one of the 16A outputs are supplied by both the generator / shore power (if available) and the inverter.
- The second 16A output is controlled by the AC input: it only switches on when shore or generator power is available. As a rule, only AC consumers that are not intended to load the battery (e.g. electric heating, air conditioning) are connected to this connection.
- Uninterruptible system: seamless switching between shore/generator and inverter current
- Compact size, low wiring effort, all safety requirements are met
EasyPlus functionalities
The EasyPlus is a powerful sine wave inverter, an excellent battery charger with adaptable charging technology and a virtually uninterruptible mains priority circuit combined in a compact housing. In addition to these main functions, the EasyPlus has other advanced features that open up new fields of application as described below.
Automatic and uninterruptible switching
If the power supply is interrupted or the generator is switched off, MultPlus immediately switches to inverter operation and supplies the connected loads. This happens so quickly (less than 20 milliseconds) that, for example, the operation of computers or other electronic devices continues without interruption (uninterruptible power supply - UPS functionality).
PowerControl - maximum utilisation with limited generator or shore power
PowerControl - maximum utilisation with limited generator or shore power. A maximum shore or generator current can be set via the Multi Control Panel (optionally available here). EasyPlus then takes other AC loads into account and only uses the surplus current to charge the battery. This protects the generator or shore connection from overloading.
PowerAssist - extended utilisation options for the on-board generator and shore power connection
This functionality adds another dimension to the PowerControl principle: EasyPlus can be used to supplement the output of other voltage sources. During load peaks, which often only occur for a short time, the limited generator or shore power can be supported by EasyPlus. In this case, the EasyPlus adds power from the inverter in synchronisation with the generator or shore power output, allowing larger loads to be operated despite limited shore power/generator output.
Programmable relay
The EasyPlus has a programmable multi-function relay that works as an alarm relay in the default setting. However, this relay can be programmed for a variety of additional functions, e.g. as a start relay for a generator.
Customisable 4-stage charging characteristics: bulk - absorption - float - storage
The EasyPlus has a microprocessor-controlled 'adaptive' battery management system that can be adapted to different battery types by means of appropriate settings. This adaptability automatically selects the most suitable charging process for each battery type.
The right amount of charge: variable constant voltage time:
If the discharge is only slight (e.g. a yacht is at the shore connection), the constant voltage time can be kept short to avoid overcharging the battery. After a deep discharge, the constant voltage phase is then automatically extended at a high voltage value to ensure that the battery is fully recharged.
Prevention of damage due to excessive gassing: The battery protection mode
If the battery needs to be recharged quickly, a high constant voltage current is set at a high voltage. EasyPlus will suppress damage caused by excessive gassing. For this purpose, the voltage rise rate is limited as soon as the gassing voltage is reached.
Less maintenance and less ageing when not in use: Storage mode
Storage mode switches on if the battery is not discharged for a period of more than 24 hours. In storage mode, the float voltage is reduced to 2.2 V per cell (13.2 V for a 12 V battery) to minimise gassing and corrosion on the positive plates. Once a week, the voltage is increased to the absorption level to equalise the charge in the battery. This process prevents stratification in the electrolyte and sulphatisation, which is often the cause of early battery failure.
Two outputs for charging two batteries
The EasyPlus has two outputs, one of which can take on the full output power. The second, which is limited to approx. 4 A at a slightly lower voltage, is intended for topping up the starter battery. Charging modern lithium batteries is of course also possible on the EasyPlus.
To extend battery life: temperature compensation
Every EasyPlus device has a battery temperature sensor. When connected, the charging voltage is automatically reduced as the battery temperature rises. This feature is particularly recommended for closed batteries and when significant temperature fluctuations are to be expected during battery use.
