Victron Lynx Smart BMS 500 NG (M10) - part of the Lynx distribution system

for Victron Lithium NG batteries | Built-in 500A contactor | Pre-charge circuit | Bluetooth connectivity

The Lynx Smart BMS NG is a battery management system (BMS) specifically designed for the new Victron Lithium NG (Next Generation) batteries. These batteries utilise lithium iron phosphate technology (LiFePO4) and are available in 12.8 V, 25.6 V and 51.2 V variants with different capacities. They can be configured in series, parallel and series/parallel arrangements, allowing battery banks to be created with system voltages of 12 V, 24 V or 48 V. The maximum number of batteries in a single system is 50, allowing a maximum storage capacity of 192kWh in a 12V system and up to 384kWh in a 24V and 48V system.

Of the various BMS available for the new Lithium NG batteries, the Lynx Smart BMS NG is the most feature-rich and complete option. In addition to the 500A version described here, it is also available in a 1000A version.

Its main features:

  • Built-in 500A contactor
  • for 12V, 24V and 48V battery systems
  • Pre-charging circuit
  • Monitoring and control
  • DVCC control circuit and ATC/ATD contacts
  • Programmable relay
  • AUX connection
  • VE.Can and NMEA 2000 data communication
  • Lynx distributor fuse monitoring

Built-in contactor 500A

The contactor acts as a secondary safety system to protect the battery in the event that the primary controls fail via ATC (Allow-To-Charge), ATD (Allow-To-Dicharge) and/or DVCC (Digital Voltage and Current Control) to disable loads and/or chargers when required and is also suitable as a remotely controllable main system switch.

Pre-charging circuit

In addition to the contactor, an in-built pre-charging circuit prevents high inrush currents when connecting capacitive loads such as MultiPlus/Quattro or other inverters, so that no external pre-charging is required.

Monitoring and control

Bluetooth connectivity enables monitoring and control via the VictronConnect app or via VE.Can connectivity in combination with GX devices such as the Cerbo GX or Ekrano GX and the VRM Portal. It enables cell voltages and temperatures to be read out on the GX devices and the VRM portal. The in-built battery monitor provides data such as state of charge, voltage, current, historical data, status information and more in real time. At-a-glance diagnostics with Instant Readout, which is an immediate display even without a connection to the BMS, enabling instant diagnostics at a glance.

DVCC control with closed control loop and ATC/ATD contacts

Compatible Victron inverters/chargers, the Orion XS 12/12-50A DC-DC battery charger and solar charge controllers are automatically controlled via data lines from the connected Victron GX device (e.g. Cerbo GX, Ekrano GX) and DVCC (Digital Voltage and Current Control). The ATC/ATD contacts can be used to control third-party chargers and loads if they have a remote on/off connection.

Programmable relay

The relay can be used either as an alarm relay (in combination with the pre-alarm) or to control an alternator via its external alternator regulator. In this mode, the alternator is switched off two seconds before the forced disconnection of the battery by the contactor takes place to prevent damage to the alternator in the event of uncontrolled battery disconnection. This protective circuit is not required when using a battery-to-battery charging converter.

AUX connection

The advantage of the integrated auxiliary power supply (1.1 A at system voltage) is that certain consumers (e.g. a GX device) are still supplied with power after the BMS has switched off the consumers due to a low cell voltage. If no charging voltage is detected within 5 minutes, the BMS including the AUX connection switches off.

VE.Can and NMEA 2000 data communication

The VE.Can enables simple connection (standard RJ45 network cable) and communication with a GX device. As the CAN-bus protocol is based on NMEA 2000 (and J1939), it is easy to integrate it into a marine network and supply your marine MFD (Multi Function Display) with data (requires a VE.Can to NMEA 2000-micro-C interface cable).

Monitoring the Lynx Distributor fuses

Read the status of the fuses and receive an alarm signal if a fuse blows. The Lynx Smart BMS monitors up to 4 connected Lynx distributors and their fuses via VictronConnect or a GX device.

Victron DC Lynx distribution system

It is a reliable and efficient solution for the distribution of direct current. Whether you are looking for a clean, convenient and space-saving solution in a motorhome, expedition vehicle, boat or home installation, the modular system allows you to customise DC distribution to your individual needs. This system enables proper distribution and protection of direct current for various loads and components such as batteries, chargers, inverters and other electrical devices. It is easy to install and operate, making it an ideal choice for use in mobile or stationary applications.
