Cerbo GX MK2 - flexible communication centre

Powerful processor | Easy installation | VRM remote monitoring | Bluetooth | Integrates with MFDs and NMEA 2000

The Cerbo GX, version MK2 is the successor to the Cerbo GX with several improvements. It is the centrepiece of your energy system. All other Victron system components - such as inverters/chargers, solar chargers and batteries - are connected to it. The Cerbo GX MK2 ensures that everything works in harmony with each other. This all-new communication centre gives you perfect control over your system, wherever you are, and maximises its performance.

The system can be monitored either with the optional GX Touch display - or from anywhere in the world via an internet connection and the VRM portal. Thanks to its Bluetooth capability, the Cerbo GX MK2 can also be accessed via the Victron Connect app. The Cerbo GX MK2 runs the Venus OS operating system.

Special features

  • 2 x VE.CAN (VE.Can 1 is isolated)
  • 3x USB, fully functional
  • 4x digital inputs with pulse counter
  • Versatile and simple installation
  • VRM remote monitoring
  • Bluetooth
  • Integrates with MFDs and NMEA 2000

Note

There are currently three different Cerbo models from Victron, the differences and similarities can be found in the data sheet in the ‘Download’ tab.

Cerbo GX and Cerbo GX MK2 - what are the differences?

The Cerbo GX MK2 uses the same housing and almost the same electronics. The differences are listed below:

  • The Cerbo GX MK2 has two fully functional CAN bus connectors, called VE.Can 1 and VE.Can 2, instead of one VE.Can and one BMS Can connector.
  • The VE.Can 1 socket is isolated. Earlier models did not have an isolated CAN bus connection. We will go into more detail about the isolated interface later in the description.
  • The RJ-45 sockets have been rotated by 180 degrees and now make it easier to unplug the cables.
  • Three full-size USB ports instead of two full-size USB ports and one USB port only for powering the GX Touch control panel.
  • The digital inputs can operate pulse counting.

Perfect monitoring & control

Instantly monitor battery state of charge, power consumption, energy generation from PV, generator and grid, or check tank levels and temperature measurements. Easily control the current limitation of the shore power input, the (automatic) start/stop of the generator or change any settings to optimise the system. Track alerts, perform diagnostic checks and solve problems remotely. The Cerbo GX MK2 turns any performance challenge into an effortless experience.

Maximise your system performance

The Cerbo GX MK2 maximises the performance of your system components in real time and keeps them in perfect tune. As a communication hub with a powerful processor, it unifies the measured values and coordinates system-wide actions to optimise the performance of all connected devices. The multitude of connection options

  • 3x VE.Direct, 2x VE.Can
  • RJ45, WLAN, Bluetooth
  • 3x USB, HDMI connection, 4x digital inputs
  • 4x resistive tank level inputs, 4x temperature sensor inputs
  • 2x programmable relays
  • MicroSD card slot

allow you to connect the devices relevant to your system. The innovative Venus OS ensures that your already efficient hardware reaches a new level of efficiency. With new NMEA 2000-out support, the GX MK2 can be easily integrated into any boat network. Maximising system performance has never been easier.

Expand your view

With the new (optional) GX Touch 50 flush display and the GX Touch 70 flush display, you have an overview of your system and can make settings in no time at all. Its super slim, waterproof 5-inch or 7-inch design, top-mountable setup and easy installation bring a lot of flexibility in creating a clear and clean dashboard. You can find more displays in our display panels section.

Easy installation and configuration

The Cerbo GX MK2 is optimised to more than meet the requirements of installers. The device can optionally be mounted on a DIN rail ( with DIN35 adapter small, not included). The optional touchscreens can be screwed onto a dashboard or flush-mounted and are connected via a single cable, eliminating the need to run many cables to a dashboard. Its Bluetooth function enables quick connection and configuration via the VictronConnect app.

Master every energy challenge

The Cerbo GX MK2 serves an infinite number of purposes and extends perfect control to the most diverse applications. For solutions with generators, such as marine, or backup & off-grid, it automatically starts/stops your generator or delays ignition until the end of "quiet" times. For energy storage systems, it keeps backup batteries at 100%, switches on during power outages and diverts excess (solar) power for self-consumption, saving you money. For RV and emergency vehicles, it keeps vital systems functioning properly. But that's just to name a few...

Always up to date

The Cerbo GX MK2 also offers remote firmware updates and even allows you to change settings remotely.

Isolated and non-isolated CAN bus interfaces

1. isolated CAN bus interfacettstelle:

Electrical isolation: With iisolated interfaces, there is galvanic isolation between the CAN bus and the devices connected to.This meansthat there is no direct electricalctrical connection between the two sides.
Protection against interference: The isolation protects against interference, overvoltages and ground loopsthat can arise due to different ground potentialsn. This is particularly important in industrial applications orin environments with high levels of electromagneticectromagnetic noise.
Applications: Isolated interfaces are often used insafety-critical applications where high reliability and protection against electricalinterference are required.

2. non-isolated CAN bus interfacettstelle:

No electrical isolation: There is no galvanicisolation for non-isolated interfaces. The devices are directly connected to each other, which means that interference orovervoltages can be transmitted from one deviceto the other .
Cost efficiency: Non-isolatedinterfaces are generally more cost-effective andeasier to implement, as they require fewer components.
Applications: This type of interfaceis often used in lesscritical applications vwhere the environmental conditions are less favourable.ng conditions are stable and there are no high requirements for electricalctrical isolation.

Conclusion

The choice between an isolatedrte and a non-isolatedn CAN bus interface depends on the specific requirementsof your application. When used in an environment with potentialnential interference or differentearth potentials, an isolated interfaceis advisable. In stable environments with lower requirementsan interface that is not isolated may be sufficientnd.

Notes

1. more detailed information about the Cerbo GX and GX Touch can be found on the Victron GX product range page at Victron live www.victronenergy.com/live/venus-os:start

2. additional accessories are required for mounting on DIN rails - DIN35 adapter small

3. the maximum shown in the table above is the sum of the connected VE.Direct devices such as MPPT solar charge controllers. Total means all directly connected devices plus the devices connected via USB. The limit value is mainly determined by the CPU processing power. Note that there is also a limit value for the other device types, of which several are often connected: PV inverters. Typically, up to three or four three-phase inverters can be monitored on a CCGX. CPU devices with higher power can monitor more.

4. the Bluetooth function is used for support during initial connection and network configuration. You cannot establish a Bluetooth connection to other Victron products (e.g. SmartSolar charge controllers).

5 There are two relays in the Cerbo GX hardware. Currently, relay 1 can be programmed as an alarm relay, generator start/stop, tank pump, temperature-controlled relay or for manual operation. Relay 2 can be programmed as a temperature controlled relay or for manual operation in the relay menu of the GX (requires firmware 2.80 or higher).

6 The digital inputs of the Cerbo GX PN BPP900450100 and the Cerbo-S GX are not capable of pulse counting.

7. the RJ45 sockets on the Cerbo GX PN BPP900450110 and BPP900451100 are rotated 180 degrees to make it easier to remove the cable.
