Differences between the V5° / V5°α pyte storage systems

The only difference between the two battery storage systems is their battery connections. The different battery connections give you the opportunity to reduce the overall costs of your home storage system.

The Pytes V5° 48V lithium home storage battery with great new features. Pytes is known for safe, well-designed and powerful LFP batteries, specially developed for today's demands on a home storage battery and ensure a long service life even with daily deep discharges. This is underlined by a 10-year manufacturer's warranty for the V5° storage units.

New features

Field of application:

Pytes home storage systems are primarily used as solar storage systems to maximise self-consumption of the solar energy generated. A grid-connected solar system that previously fed all of its energy into the grid can now be used for self-consumption. But even purely stand-alone systems can significantly increase their storage capacity by using the 5kWh storage modules.

During the day - when electricity consumption is usually relatively low but the solar system is delivering maximum power - the surplus energy is stored in the storage modules. In the evening and overnight or during peak loads, the energy from the storage modules is used to cover your own electricity requirements. This significantly reduces the amount of electricity purchased from the public electricity supplier and prevents expensive solar energy from being fed into the grid at low cost. Depending on the design / size of the solar system and the storage system, almost 100 per cent self-sufficiency can be achieved. With a grid-connected solar system, only the surplus is fed into the public grid when the solar storage tank is full.

Furthermore, these storage systems are increasingly being used as an emergency power solution to maintain the operation of essential consumers in the event of power failures.

Battery management BMS:

Each storage module has its own integrated battery management system, which ensures the safe operation of each storage system at all times. The BMS permanently monitors the status of the individual cells and protects them against overvoltage, undervoltage and excessive temperatures. These protective mechanisms - integrated into each storage module - prevent premature failure of the storage system and ensure maximum safety.

The integrated high-performance cells in Pytes home storage systems deliver more than 6,000 cycles at a depth of discharge of 90%. This secures your investment through years of reliable use.

In comparison with conventional battery technology (lead batteries), lithium storage systems can fully utilise their advantages. Of course, all battery storage systems are consumables and their service life is reduced with every discharge, which cannot be avoided with LifePO4 storage systems either. However, the significantly greater number of charging cycles and the energy density of lithium storage systems mean that the costs per kWh at the end of the storage system's life are significantly lower than with conventional lead battery technology.

Advantages of the Pytes lithium storage system

• Deep discharge capability, while conventional lead batteries (AGM / GEL) should only be discharged to 50%, 90% depth of discharge (DOD) is easily possible with lithium storage systems
• high energy density in a small installation space, in order to achieve a comparable usable capacity with a GEL / AGM battery, its capacity would have to be almost doubled. Approx. 4.5kWh can be extracted from a 5.12kWh lithium storage unit at 90% depth of discharge. To obtain this amount of energy from lead batteries (with 50% DOD), a battery capacity of 9kWh would be required.
• Charging cycles, while the Pytes home storage system achieves 6,000 charging cycles at a depth of discharge of 90% (residual capacity 10%), GEL batteries still deliver around 1,400 cycles at 50% depth of discharge and AGM batteries only 750 cycles. At 90% depth of discharge (for which they are not designed) they would deliver less than 200 cycles. Only OPzV or OPzS as representatives of lead batteries (armoured plate batteries) would be conceivable as an alternative storage solution, whereby the number of cycles at 50% DOD is around 2,500 and at 90% DOD less than 1,000 cycles.

If the number of cycles and the usable capacity are used to calculate the amount of energy that can be extracted over the entire service life, the following result is obtained.

Extracted power in kWh over the entire service life

• Pytes 5.12kWh storage: approx. 28,000kWh
• OPzS / OPzV 9kWh storage: 12,500kWh
• GEL storage 9kWh storage: 7,000kWh
• AGM storage with 9kWh storage: 4,000kWh

If you divide these values by the acquisition costs of the respective storage systems, you get the costs per kWh, which can then be easily compared with each other.

Simple installation

The storage system is easy to install, maintenance-free and can be used as the basic component of an energy storage system by connecting it in parallel. If several storage modules are used, they are connected in parallel using the supplied jumper cables. Communication cables for communication between the storage modules are also included in the scope of delivery. The memory blocks can be safely stacked on top of each other using brackets. As an option, the Pytes V-Box-IC is also available as a storage cabinet that can hold three storage modules (totalling 15kWh).

High charging and discharging currents

If several storage modules are connected directly to each other in parallel using the supplied jumper cables and the current is drawn crosswise (plus from the first and minus from the last storage module), the maximum continuous current is 100A, regardless of the number of storage modules. If higher charging and discharging currents are required, the individual storage modules must each be connected to a positive and negative busbar. The inverters or chargers are then connected directly to the busbar. This multiplies the possible current draw from the storage pack. With two storage modules it would then be 200A, with three storage modules 300A and so on.
