You always need a DC-DC converter if you want to generate a higher, lower or stabilised DC output voltage from an existing DC voltage. When selecting the right DC-DC converter, an important criterion is the output power required by the connected loads. For loads that have a high starting current, such as pumps or compressors, it is important to plan in power reserves. The Victron Orion TR 12/48-8 makes it possible to generate a 48V DC voltage from a 12V DC voltage. The modern DC-DC converter from Victron provides a regulated 48V DC voltage and delivers a continuous current of up to 8A, which corresponds to 380W. You can use it to supply any 48V consumer with the right voltage. Especially for sensitive electrical devices with integrated electronics, such as radios, it is necessary to maintain the required operating voltage for problem-free use and a long service life.

The Victron Orion TR 12/48-8 is therefore ideal for use in 12V battery systems where 48V consumers must also be supplied.

Galvanically isolated

Galvanic isolation ensures that input-side interference cannot be transmitted to the output or vice versa. The inputs and outputs are separated from each other, so there is no direct connection between the two circuits and the transmission of interference is prevented. This is particularly useful for radio, audio and interference-sensitive electronics.

Remote-controlled on/off switching

The Orion TR can be used as an on/off switch or can be controlled via the ignition or D+ signal, for example. The remote-controlled on/off circuit eliminates the need for a high-current switch on the input wiring. The remote on/off connection can be controlled by a power saving switch or by the motor's run/stop switch.

Adjustable output voltage

The default value is set to 48.2V. If you want to adjust the output voltage, it can be set between -15 % and +25 % of the standard output voltage value by simply turning the potentiometer.

Explanation

1) If the output voltage is set to nominal or lower than nominal, it remains stable within the specified input voltage range (BuckBoost function). If the output voltage is set a certain percentage higher than the nominal value, the minimum input voltage at which the output voltage remains stable (does not drop) increases by the same percentage.
